The York County Heritage Trail begins in York, Pa., and
runs into Maryland where it becomes the North Central
Railroad Trail, and continues to the town of Ashland Md. The Pennsylvania side is 21 miles while the Maryland side
is 20 miles. The trail climbs from York to New Freedom,
and then descends to Parkton. From then on, the trail is
fairly level to Ashland. From York to New Freedom, the
trail runs along the Liberty Limited/North Central Railway.
In Maryland, it runs along the Gunpowder Falls River. The
trail is made up of finely crushed gravel and runs through
mostly rural areas.
