The Wild Goose Trail is an ornithologist's haven. The
majority of the trail runs by the western edge of the
Horicon National Wildlife Refuge wildlife refuge
where thousands of birds live, and migratory waterfowl
stop at on their annual flight south. The Marsh is bounded
on the east by the Nigara Escarpment that rises 250 feet
above the marsh. Parking is available at Fond du
Lac, Marsh Haven Nature Center, Fireman's Park, and at Hwy
60. Restrooms are available at the Nature Center,
Hwy 60 Trailhead, Oakfield Village Park, Juneau City Park.
There is a bike rental establishment in Fond du Lac. The trail runs from
Fond Du Lac to highway 60, which is 4 miles south of
Juneau. The total mileage is 34 miles. The parallel
horse path from highway 60 to Pautsch Road(4 miles north
of Burnett) is 14
miles long. No Trail Passes are required for the
Wild Goose State Trail. |
