The W&OD Trail is 45 miles long, paved, and runs from
Purcellville to Shirlington. A gravel path for horses parallels
the trail from
Purcellville to Vienna. There are many Civil
War battle sites within
close proximity of the trail. Many of
the towns it goes through
have
historical museums. The east
end of the Washington and Old Dominion Trail is close to
Arlington,
Alexandria,
Washington DC, and so, has an endless
list of nearby
attractions.
