The Three Rivers Trail runs for 33 miles. Its west end has been
completed to the outskirts of Rolfe, and the east end is currently
1.5 miles west of Eagle
Grove. The trail gets its name from the fact
that it crosses three rivers;
the west branch of the Des Moines River,
the east branch of the Des
Moines River, and the Boone River. The
western part of the trail
parallels
the Des Moines River for several
miles. The trail passes through woodlands, grasslands, marshy areas,
and open prairie. The trail has a 10 foot
width of crushed limestone. Parking lots, shelter
houses, and restrooms
have been added along
the route. There are
restrooms and showers at
a park in Rolfe, which
will be the future start
of the western trailhead. Bradgate is just a small
village with no amenities, so it's quite a stretch without water or
food
between Rolfe and Rutland. This is a great Iowa trail that few people
know about. |
