The Tammany Trace Trail is Louisiana's first rail trail. The first
section between Abita Springs and Mandeville was completed
in 1994. Currently, there are about 20 miles that have been
completed, and another 11 miles that should be done by the
end of 2002. When finished, the trail will be at least 10 feet
wide and approximately 31 miles long. The pathway traverses
through wetlands, woodlands, and crosses 31 bridges.
