The Silver Comet Trail is part of the Georgia Path project,
which also includes over 20 miles of trails in the Atlanta
Metro area. The Silver Comet Trail is a 61.5 mile long
concrete rail-trail going from Smyrna to the Georgia-Alabama
state line, where it meets the Chief Ladiga Trail.
The route is quite flat, with only slight grades but no real hills.
Even so, the Silver Comet Trail is very scenic, as it runs through
forests, cliffs, and
across bridges. One of the trail highlights is crossing
the Pumpkinvine Creek Trestle, a 750 foot long, 126 foot
high bridge. A little farther west is the 800 foot
Brushy Mountain tunnel. Combined, the Silver Comet
Trail and Chief Ladiga Trail make up one of the longest
paved rail-trails in the United States!
