The section from Herndon to Yale is now completed. The trail
runs straight through from Jefferson to Clive and is about
57 miles long. The trail runs through the Raccoon
River Valley, and in close proximity to the Raccoon River.
The first 4 or 5 miles of trail out of Jefferson are
concrete and quite scenic. From then on, the trail is
asphalt, and varies between virtually no trees to heavily
wooded. There are some fairly long stretches where
there is a slight incline. The trail user will see
native Iowa prairie, timber, and farmland. This
is a very nice trail, especially with it being paved.
A 33-mile-long “North Loop,” will be added with much
of the work happening in 2009 and 2010. This would
create a 72-mile “loop” trail that would be the longest
paved loop trail in the nation. The addition would bring
the total miles of the RRVT to 89. |
