The Ozaukee Interurban Trail is a 30-mile recreational
trail that
crosses Ozaukee County from north to south, and passes through
eight
different communities.
The route of the Ozaukee Interurban
Trail is primarily
that of the historic interurban railway that ran between
Milwaukee and Sheboygan from 1907 to 1948.
Activities allowed on the
trail are
hiking, walking, running, biking,
roller blading,
and skiing. Some sections of the trail are tree-lined
and make for
great wildlife viewing. Just north of Grafton, a new
wood-planked bridge was built over the Milwaukee River at a
cost
of $400,000, or about one-fifth
of the project's total budget
of 2.1 million dollars. The
recreational trail was dedicated on
September 28, 2002.
Future plans call for the Ozaukee Interurban Trail
to be extended
to the City of Sheboygan where the east end of
the Old Plank
Road Trail is
located.
Several small gaps in the
trail exist. Click
