The Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail runs through the
Cuyahoga
Valley National Recreation Area, and follows the route
of the
Ohio
& Erie Canal. The distance from Independence to
the Indian
Mound Trailhead is 19½ miles. The trail goes through
forests,
fields and wetlands. It also intersects many other trails
along the
way. There are many historical exhibits and sights to see
along the
path. It is also possible to ride part way and take the
excursion
train for the return trip.
