The Hart-Montague Bicycle Trail opened
in 1991, and in 1996
became one of the first two trails to be designated a Michigan
Trailway. A private citizen recognized the potential of the old
railroad corridor for trail use, so he bought it and donated
most
of it to the State. This trail is 21 miles long and is paved. The
entire
trail is in close proximity to Lake Michigan and all the
amenities
that go along with the lake. The DNR is pursuing acquisition
of
an additional 10 miles south of Montague.
