The entire Erie Canal Heritage Trail runs along the Erie Canal,
so there's always something interesting to see. And, at a length
of over 80 miles from Lockport to Palmyra, it is also one of
the longest trails in the country. Overall the trail surface is
fairly good, although it is a little ruff in some places. By
Rochester it is paved, and quite congested with a lot of
pedestrian traffic. Most of the towns along the way have
parking and places to eat. There are also interesting places
to visit in almost every town. The trail is designated as a
National Recreation Trail.
