In Medary, the end of
one trail is the start of another, the La Crosse
River State Trail. The trail parallels an active
rail line all the way to
Sparta, for a total of 21 miles. On the way, it
passes through West
Salem, which has several historic buildings
including the unique
Palmer-Gullickson Octagon home. And, West Salem has one of
the
nicest
lakes in southwest Wisconsin. In Bangor, a short
trail spur
goes to a
local town park. This trail is probably the most
prairie-like,
as there are
only sporadic growths of trees. All-in-all, it makes
for a
pleasant ride,
and is well worth a visit.

From
Elroy, the Omaha
Trail runs north for
13 miles to Camp
Douglas. This trail
is paved, and has
one tunnel, which is
875
feet long. Most of
the pathway is
shaded, flat, and
straight as an
arrow. Contrary to
the placement of the
tunnel on most maps,
it
is actually 3¾ mi
from Hustler to the
tunnel. There is at
least one
bar and a bowling
alley that serve
food in Hustler.
Northwest of
Camp Douglas is Mill
Bluff State Park,
which is known for
its
towering sandstone
bluffs.
