The northern end of the Great River State Trail
starts in Marshland, and
then passes by the Trempealeau
National Wildlife Refuge and Perrot State
Park on its way
south to Trempealeau. There you can watch tugboats push
barges through the locks as well as other activities on
the river. The entire
trail is quite shaded, and the
Mississippi bluffs add significantly
to the
scenery. The
Black River Bridge between Trempealeau and
Midway is
extremely long and quite impressive.
The Great River State
Trail Visitor
Center is located in Onalaska.. The southern
end of the trail is in Medary,
for a total of 24 miles and
18 bridge crossings.
The Great River State Trail is part of a
100+ mile linking trail system.
