The Banks-Vernonia Trail is the first linear state park in Oregon. The
trail stetches 21 miles from Vernonia down to just ¼
mile north of the
town of Banks. The trail is eight feet wide,
and has a four foot wide
horse trail parallel to it. There are 12
bridges, two of which are 600
feet long and 80 feet high. Although it is located just 40 miles west of
Portland, the area is
very remote and has few amenities. The scenery
and lack of
crowds is a great asset to hiking or riding on this trail.
